Cocoa

I've been wanting to make a poppet ever since I stumbled across all of the posts on Crafster. I bought some pretty velour (more than enough to make even 10 poppets!) and have been looking at various yarns every time I go to the craft store for hair ideas for many months now.

My niece's 3rd birthday a couple of weekend's ago was impetus to get off my duff and finally try my hand at it. I was busy preparing for a 4th of July party here at my place the weekend before so I didn't actually start work on this poppet until a couple days before the party. I hate being rushed on crafting but it inevitably always happens. It's not really that I procrastinate (although I have been guilty of that from time to time), it's just that the thought of MAKING something instead of buying always comes to me last second. Bah... anywho....

Here's my first poppet. She was christened "Cocoa" by the birthday girl long after we left the party (my niece got distracted by birthday cake right after opening gifts so it was a few days before I found out her new name).

Here is a shot of all the pattern pieces drawn out on the backside of my fabric. I didn't have any freezer paper to do this the way the instructions call for in the original pattern but I think I still did a nice enough job without the "shortcut".

And my finished poppet!

Cocoa has a natural predisposition to crossing her legs... such a proper poppet!!

And of course, the obligatory "helper kitteh" shot:

I'm looking forward to making a bunch more. I need a couple more for Christmas gifts for my cousins and I have a bunch of ideas for my own little poppet army. I'll add them here as I go along. Now all I need to do is have that garage sale so I can clear out the junk in my craft room and actually get in there to craft again!!
